Kicking off the last week of the regular season, Deerfield traveled just up the road to NMH on Monday, winning 3-0 in front of a loud Northfield crowd.
Unseasonably hot temperatures outside meant it felt particularly warm in the gym and the solid NMH crowd forced Deerfield to be clear and loud in our communication. Deerfield got out to an early lead, but credit to NMH who kept rallies going and took advantage of missed serves from Deerfield to close the lead before Deerfield responded to take the first set, 25-21.
In the second set, a long service run from Loran McGruder ‘24 pushed Deerfield out to a solid lead. Strong, intelligent hitting from Cate Shanahan ‘23 and Evie Mokarow ‘24 allowed Deerfield to win the second set, 25-13.
In the third set, Deerfield again minimized their errors and was able to take advantage of good serving to keep the pressure on the Hoggers and close out the match, 25-16.
Thanks to NMH fans for bringing the energy and cheering to a Monday afternoon match.
Deerfield is on the road again on Wednesday, taking on St. Paul’s at 4:00pm.
