NMH 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-19)
Deerfield defeated a strong NMH team 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-19) on Monday afternoon. The Doors were led by three middle hitters, Olivia Smit ’25, Simisola Lawal ’23, and Koko Akpan ’23, who finished the match with nine, five, and four kills respectively. After winning the first set, the Doors came back from a 13-18 deficit in the second set thanks to the excellent serving of Alice Wu ’25, effective setting by Kostiuk ’25 and senior Megan Ng, clutch blocking and hitting by Simisola Lawal ’23 and Lily Lin ’23, and excellent back row defense by seniors Alessia Root and Lucy Guo. Georgia Ball ’25 added four kills—including a beautifully placed tip over a double block to close out the first set—and an ace from her outside hitter position. Senior setter Alex Kelsey had many outstanding short serves in the first set, three of which dropped to the floor for aces. The team travels north to Concord, New Hampshire this Wednesday for the penultimate match of the season: a much-anticipated rematch against a formidable St. Paul’s team.
