Hitting the road for a long away match on Wednesday, Deerfield traveled to Hotchkiss and ended up with a win by a score of 3-0.
A shorter than normal warm-up had Deerfield starting a bit flat, but passing from Zoe Gavros ‘23 and Elle Stearns ‘23 allowed the Big Green to start to get some offense going. Cate Shanahan ‘23 brought her usual consistency and ball placement and a service run from Greta Trapp ‘25 extended Deerfield’s lead on the way to a first set score of 25-15.
In the second set, inconsistent play from Deerfield, coupled with the Bearcat’s strong defense, kept the score close. Smart, well-placed setting from Wuyee Ke ‘26 and Trapp allowed Deerfield’s hitters to get more involved (including Georgia Sackrey ‘23, Caroline Weller ‘23, Evie Mokarow ‘24, Natalie Meyer ‘23, and Evelyn Kunde ‘26) and Deerfield was able to take the set, 25-21.
In the third set, the Hotchkiss defense kept rallies going, but Deerfield’s hitting and passing allowed it to get out to a lead. Another nice service run from Trapp took the score from 14-8 to 23-8 and Deerfield closed out the set, 25-13.
Thank you to Hotchkiss for hosting us.
Next up, Deerfield travels to face an undefeated Exeter squad on Saturday at 4pm.
