Missing a number of players due to injury, Deerfield turned in the gutsiest performance of the season and earned a tough 1-0 victory against a determined and talented St Paul’s squad today. On an absolutely beautiful at on the Academy fields, Deerfield and St Paul’s traded blows for much of the first half, with both sides seeing some excellent chances. Deerfield finally broke the scoreless tie when Theo Lewis won a defensive challenge in the midfield, carried forward, and played a beautiful through ball to Jarvis Shema who was cutting in from the left side. Jarvis took the pass in stride and finished in the right side netting for his third goal in as many games. The half would end 1-0 in Deerfield’s favor. After some even play to start the second half, St Paul’s began to impose their will on the Big Green with a sustained and dangerous attack. Kai Darrell came up huge as the game wore on, making several excellent and timely saves. Deerfield kept playing tough and found a way to pull out the win. All in all, it was an excellent match against a tough and very well-coached St Paul’s team.
