We beat a good Loomis team today on one goal scored in the first five minutes by Winston Cho. We were moving the ball well when Jakub Kohn scooped a pass over the Loomis back line. Winston ran onto it before the charging keeper got there and sent it between the keeper’s legs. It was a chilly, breezy afternoon and we had lots of subs, so we ran 10 minute shifts to keep everyone warm. The team played our shape well and defended with great commitment. Henry Shearer and MacGregor Hynds played particularly well in the back, as did Caleb McDaniels on the wing and Jack Willett at striker. With about 10 minutes to go, however, we committed an innocent trip at the far width of the box, giving Loomis a PK, which they sent over the bar. Keeper Joe Berman sustained a leg bruise soon after and Bob Zhang had to come in after playing the whole first half and freezing on the bench for most of the second. We held on though and the team was excited to earn this tight win. Today required a full team effort, with minutes distributed more equally today than previously. The refs complemented the sportsmanship too, so this was an excellent outcome for Deerfield soccer.
