We beat Kent soundly 5-0 this afternoon at home. We scored in the first three minutes of the game when Walker Naughton wiggled free by the left corner flag and sent a long, high cross over the keeper. Winger Frances Andersons met the ball at the far post and laid it back across the goal mouth for Jack Willett to punch in. We had several more chances soon after, the best being a header from Jack, but we couldn’t find the net and went to halftime 1-0. In the second half, we struggled for a few minutes, but then possessed better and earned several nice goals. A strong early cross from a streaking Winston Cho found Luca Lyons’ feet directly in front of the keeper. He tried to tap it near post and, again, Frances Andersons was crashing the post to beat their scrambling keeper and finish. Our third goal came from Jakub Kohn when we crossed, crashed the net, made a mess, and then poked it in. Luca Lyons then struck on yet another strong cross from Winston Cho, this time from the left side of the field. Luca was there to trap inside the box, touch, and blast it home. The final goal also came from Luca, when Kevin Gonzalez sent a low, hard cross through the box. After a few misplays, Luca was at the far post, settled, and powered it in with his left foot. Luca, on his birthday, got a goal with each foot and an assist. Today’s result came from a strong team effort, quicker play in the midfield, and excellent containment in the back. Senior Bob Zhang made a big right hand save before halftime to keep it 1-0 and his goalkeeper partner Joe Berman kept a clean sheet in the second half. We had a good time today!
