Today’s game vs Berkshire was a tough loss. We came out playing with intensity and with a style we had been practicing in keep-away games in practice. In the 5th minute, we put pressure on their back line and Ari Santos made an excellent upfield tackle, well advanced from his left wing back position, took one touch, and delivered a beauty over the keeper. The energy was very high and then Berkshire responded. They attacked our end line, earned a corner, and tied the game with a well-hit header. They kept pressing our back line and, instead of playing with our bodies on the ball, we tried to stop it with elevated feet only to have a Berkshire attacker run through us and score. That happened twice before halftime and we huddled down 1-3. We responded well in the second half and played even 0-0 with them, despite their constant pressure. Keeper Joe Berman played the whole game and was rock solid, vocal, and poised. Credit to Berkshire, aside from some dirty play, for playing assertively and physically. We were missing several key players to injury and Coach Corliss and I were proud of our team’s effort. We were especially proud of their composure and respect for the game.
