On Saturday, October 1st, the boys junior B footballers kicked off their home slate with a 2:30 kickoff against Suffield Academy. Despite missing several starters, the team played their most complete match of the season and beat Suffield 3-0 to improve their record to 4-0. It was clear right from the get-go that Deerfield were going to dominate the match, but due to strong goaltending from Suffield, it took most of the 1st half to get on the board. Deerfield came close in the 5th minute, hitting the crossbar, but it wasn’t until the 22nd minute that they found the back of the net, when a Nathan Blaya ’25 strike staked the hosts to a 1-0 lead. Just a few minutes later, in the 25th minute, right back Ethan Li ’25 sent a long ball forward that Michael Clifford-Levy ’26 was able to get on the end of and double the lead at 2-0 going into half-time. In the 2nd half, Deerfield wasted little time adding to the lead, with Blaya netting his second goal of the game from a corner kick from Read Kitchell ’26 in the 43rd minute. While Deerfield didn’t score again, they continued to dominate possession and keeper Brendan Butz ’23 was little tested on his way to his third clean sheet in four games. Quad squad will continue their homestand with a match against the Westminster School on October 8th at 3:00.
