Led by a clean sheet from backup keeper Tucker Gongaware ’26, the boys junior B footballers continued their winning streak, beating the Eaglebrook School 1-0 on October 22nd as the only Deerfield team playing at home. Quad squad now stands at 7-0, after beating another opponent that they faced earlier in the season. Unlike the recent scoring outbursts in other matches, this one featured an early goal, then a stalemate for the rest of the match. Deerfield’s leading scorer Matias Cushman ’25 scored yet another goal, this one in the 8th minute, to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. From there, it was a white-knuckle affair, with EBS getting several good looks at the net, but Gongaware, in his first career match in net, was up to the challenge. On the other side, Deerfield also had lots of opportunities, but somehow the ball always found a way to stay out of the net. EBS even brought their keeper forward in the last few minutes, but were unable to find the equalizer. The match did feature Deerfield’s first yellow card of the season, as a hard challenge earned Michael Clifford-Levy ’26 a warning just before full-time. Quad squad’s next match will be against yet another familiar foe – Suffield Academy, whom they beat 3-0 back on October 1st, at 3:00 on Wednesday, October 26th.
