We couldn’t have asked for a better day to play field hockey. With a backdrop drenched in the colors of fall, and under a sunny sky, Deerfield played on their home turf in front of their families and friends. They game was equally matched and competitive throughout the 60 minutes of play. The first goals were scored in the second quarter. Deerfield’s Lilly Oliver ’26 was the first to find the back of the net as she capitalized on a ball sent from Lauren Loh ’24. Loomis tallied two goals of their own, though, before the end of the second quarter. The girls in green came out strong after a moment to regroup at the half, and tied up the game when Callia Ferraris ’23 lifted a ball on a corner play. Kate MacKenzie ’24 helped Deerfield control the center of the field and Haley Abraham ‘25 and Lila DeLuca ’25 anchored the defense. Bailey Miller ’24 made a push for the goal in the fourth quarter and was fouled in her attempt. A penalty stroke was awarded to Deerfield. The Loomis goalie made an impressive save and kept the game tied. It wasn’t until the last 30 seconds of the game that the tie was broken. Loomis capitalized on a free ball in the circle and the game ended with a 2-3 score. The girls will enjoy a Monday off from classes, and return ready to play Westminster on Wednesday.
