On this blustery Wednesday, Deerfield’s JV Field Hockey team came up short, losing to Westminster 2-1. A competitive game start to finish, Deerfield’s play was energetic, coordinated, and scrappy throughout both halves. Goalies Ashley LaBrucherie ’23 and Juliet Amadeo ’25 didn’t bat an eye at the persistence of Westminster’s forward line, making several big saves to keep Deerfield in the game. Deerfield answered Westminster’s first goal 10 minutes into the second half with a shot from Lalwani Surpitski ’26 assisted by Charlotte Steffensen ’25. Surpitski, as well as other defenders Josephine Cramer ’24, Gia Thompson ’26, and Edie Huffard ’25, had a critical presence on the field today, encouraging the team to keep hustling and to stay positive. Our collection of forwards and midfielders, including Lila Church ’25, Lila King ’24, Elizabeth Kelly ’25, Campbell Ardrey ’26, Brooke Stroh ’24, Sophie Simonds ’26, Avery Zakowich ’25, Emily Bruno ’25, Linnea Dreslin ’24, and Steffensen, held strong until the final horn, generating a nail-biting opportunity in the final few moments of play. With the added challenge of playing on grass for the first time, the team walked away from the day feeling proud of their flexibility and fair play. We’ll bring a similar attitude to our game against Taft on Saturday.
