On Deerfield’s Fall Family Weekend, the JV Field Hockey team came out on top yet again, defeating a small but mighty Loomis team 5-0. Despite the difficulty of coordinating play between all 22 girls on Saturday’s roster, each who needed her time to shine in front of her friends and family, Deerfield had a team win; each goal was a group effort. In the first half of the game, goals came from Emily Bruno ‘25 assisted by Lila Church ‘25 and Elizabeth Kelly ‘25 assisted again by Church. Another highlight of the first half was a big save by goalie Brady Weirl ‘26, who bravely volunteered to step into the cage in place of our regular pair of goalies who were unable to play this weekend. Goals in the second half came from Campbell Ardrey ‘26 assisted by Kelly, Melinda Aznar Klein ‘25 assisted by Avery Zakowich ‘25, and again from Ardrey, this time off of a drive by Church. Thanks to the consistent effort of midfielders Bruno, Zakowich, Charlotte Steffensen ‘25, and Lilwani Surpitski ‘26, in addition to a cool, calm, and collected defensive line, Deerfield was able to ward off Loomis’s offensive pressure throughout the game. It felt like a big win to match an equally big crowd of spectators. We’re excited to keep the momentum going this Wednesday at Westminster.
