Cross Country (Boys): Varsity vs. Loomis Chaffee School (10/15/22 3:15 PM)

Event Details

The Pelicans of Loomis soared while the Boars of Choate trundled in their respective competitions against the Deerfield harriers under cerulean skies this past Parents Weekend. The Loomis boys are enjoying a very strong season and were able to place four runners ahead of the first Door, Max Wang ’25. Thankfully, six more Deerfield runners crossed the line ahead of Loomis’ fifth, and the seventh Deerfield runner, Aiden Van Epps ’25, was only four seconds further back. This result marks a steep improvement relative to the Pelicans since our last meeting at Canterbury earlier this fall, so the Deerfield harriers will look to yield more speed through training in the coming weeks and aim high at the championships. The junior varsity squad defeated the Loomis JV comfortably.

The other race of the day against perennial rivals Choate featured a double DA sweep as both the varsity and junior varsity squads soundly trounced the competition from Wallingford. Many junior varsity runners posted remarkable times, but five 9th graders deserve credit for their bold, aggressive racing that bodes favorably for the future of the program. John Woo, Oliver Peruzzi, Reid McCoy, Gus Mallory, and Martin Liu (all class of 2026) broke under 20 minutes, with Martin pushing under 19!

Next weekend, the Doors will roll to Exeter, New Hampshire to take on the Lions of PEA, the Gorillas of PA, and the Hoggers of NMH.
