On January 15th, the boy’s thirds basketball team traveled to Suffield Academy for a 3 pm tipoff. Considering that they lost a scrimmage to Suffield 28-1 several weeks ago, the team were looking to improve on that performance. While the team indeed play much better and were within single digits in the 2nd half, the final score was 61-36 and the team’s record dropped to 1-3 on the season with the loss. Deerfield again found itself with an early deficit to the hot-shooting Suffield team, who got numerous offensive rebounds and shot nearly 50% from the field to lead 29-16 at the half. Deerfield shot much better in the 2nd half and cut the deficit to 7 at several points, but were unable to get any closer. The scoring was balanced, with 9 of the 11 players scoring, while Lock Grigsby ’25 and Ephraim Tutu ’24 led the team with 7 points apiece. In addition to chipping in 5 points, Isaac Bakare ’24 turned in the highlight of the season so far, chasing down a Suffield player on a clear breakaway and blocking the shot. The team will be back in action on January 19th, with a 4:30 home game in the Barn against Cushing Academy.
