On January 22nd, the boy’s thirds basketball team traveled to face the Eagle Hill School for a 3 pm tipoff. This was the 2nd meeting of the season between the two schools, with Deerfield taking a 32-26 decision before the holiday break. Unfortunately, they were unable to sweep the series, losing a heartbreaker, 25-23 to drop to 2-4 on the season. The game started out well for Deerfield – they held the Pioneers to 20% shooting in the 1st half and led by 5 at the half, 16-11. They didn’t shoot particularly well themselves in the 1st half, however, with Eagle Hill’s zone defense limiting drives to the baskets and potential layups. That cold shooting doomed them in the 2nd half, as they only managed to shoot 3 for 27 from the field, including 1 for 11 from behind the 3-point line. 0-7 shooting from the free throw line for the game also contributed to the close loss. Ethan Li ’25 led Deerfield with 5 points, while 3 players – Ephraim Tutu ’24, Lock Grigsby ’25, and MacGregor Hynds ’25 – chipped in 4 apiece. The team’s next game will be on January 26th, with a 2:30 pm tipoff against the Loomis Chaffee School at home.
