Though it took until about halfway through the third period to really start to play our game, Deerfield Girls Hockey came away with a comeback 4-3 win against NMH on Friday evening. Jackson Kinsler ’22 opened the scoring in the first period (assist to Mia Goetzke ’24) after sustained pressure in the offensive zone, but then we allowed NMH to score three unanswered goals. We finally found our compete level in the third period, and Emma Gurnell ’22 got us within one goal (assist to Annie Dinges ’24) before Dinges tied the score with a beautiful goal of her own. Sam Olander ’23 scored the winner with under two minutes to go after her smart shot from the point deflected off an NMH stick and into the net. Grace Caligiuri ’22 earned the win in goal, Sage Piekarski ’23 was a force in front of the net, Sara Robert ’22 was excellent on the penalty kill, and Caitlyn Lodge ’24 earned the hard hat for strong and smart play. Many thanks to the Broeckers and Howes for the pizza dinner after the game! We will enjoy the unexpected day off tomorrow and get back to work on Monday in preparation for Winchendon at home on Wednesday.
