After coming off a thrilling comeback tie at Avon on Wednesday, Deerfield hosted a young Salisbury team and looked to build off the momentum from Wednesday’s match. Big Green started strong with some good attacking play in the opening twenty minutes, and Tynan Creagh ‘22 buried a header off a beautiful cross from Nyle Kamil ‘22 to make it 1-0 Deerfield. Some good back and forth play ensued until Gavin Rigney ’24 broke loose down the left hand side and played a nice cross back in to the middle for Ian Choi ’23 who scored to make it 2-0.
Just before the first half ended, Salisbury saw one of their most talented players receive a second yellow card and he was sent off. For much of the rest of the match, Deerfield kept possession and played with composure until Jonny Scagel ‘25 took a great headed pass from Derek Zhang ’22, and sprinted down the left side of the field, beating a few defenders, and playing a lovely cross to the back post where Gavin Rigney ’24 finished a beautiful header to make it 3-0. That is how the game would finish. It was a complete team effort from Big Green for their first win of the season.
