Deerfield’s first game of the 2021 season ended in a 5-5 tie after 7 innings. Deerfield held a 4-1 lead after 5 innings but Williston scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game. Each team scored a run in the 7th inning and the game was called due to darkness after that. The pitching for Deerfield was strong throughout. Starter PJ Hamil threw 4 innings and allowed 3 hits and struck out 4 batters. Relief pitcher Kiernan Keller threw 3 innings and allowed 5 hits while also striking out 4. Neither pitcher gave up any earned runs as Deerfield’s defense accounted for 3 errors that led to all 5 of Williston’s runs. At the plate catcher Trey Borque went 3-3 with 2 RBI and 3B Davis Cook and CF Tyler Mudd also had multi-hit games for the Big Green.
