With the whole court space to ourselves, the Girls JV Squash team had a dominant showing against Loomis on Saturday. The girls supported and cheered for each other, and each member brought positive energy that made today fun.
#1 Camila Cushman joined us from the Varsity team, and, after cheering on Zeyna’s match, she defeated her opponent through three strong sets. #2 Zeyna Ilahi worked hard to earn her win. Her first two sets were see-saw matches, and, in her second game, Zeyna came back from a 7-9 deficit to win 12-10. #3 Olivia Waterfall drew a nice crowd for her match, and while the flow of the first three games (with two wins followed by a loss) were reminiscent of her match on Wednesday, she stayed focus to win her fourth set and the match. #4 Caroline Hoff had a strong showing by winning each of her three matches. While her opponent made a comeback surge in sets one and two, Caroline kept her composure and won those games. #5 Valentina Williamson enjoyed a win after falling behind by a few points in her first set; once she came back and took the lead, she would not fall behind after. #6 Hunter Pulliam defeated her opponent with three sets, each involving similar flows: Hunter allowed a point or two after winning several points, but she never gave up a lead. #7 Avery Brooker had a solid win; her first set was a see-saw match that saw each girl at seven points, and Avery pulled ahead to win the set.
#8 Stella Fierro had a strong showing through five sets. She won her first two sets but then lost her next two sets as her opponent came back to win those sets; Stella came back strong to soundly defeat her opponent in the fifth set. #9 Grace Honos had a self-described “fun” match, and she not only won her match, she also served as a great team-mate to Emi by cheering her on. #10 Emi Takegami won her match after a close win in each of her first two sets; she came back to win set three and take the match.
The team will have its first road-match against Taft in the new year, and we look forward to having a rematch against Loomis when we visit them in mid-February. Until then, we wish Loomis the best of luck!
