The boys varsity basketball team traveled to AA Kimball Union Academy for our first game of the season. Missing four out of 13 players, the team dug in and kept the contest competitive until the end. Down seven points with five minutes to play, Deerfield ran out of gas, losing 86-70. Many bright spots, however, including the balanced, three-point sharp shooting from Thomas Lu, Chandler Dicks and Dimitri Mendoza. Evan Boccia and Davis Mead set an aggressive tone on the offensive end with penetration plays for layups in traffic leading to “and one” opportunities at the foul line. The squad played strong man-to-man defense, making KUA earn all of their buckets.
