The boys JV basketball team played their second game of the season today, hosting Westminster. The game had a tight, edgy beginning with the two teams trading scores and no one really being able to establish control. We took our biggest lead of the first half at 23-16, but Westminster responded well after they called a time out and were able to tie the game up with a couple minutes to play in the half. As a result, instead of being really able to take control of the game, we went into the half with just a 27 to 23 lead. The start of the second half was still a little bumpy but after a couple minutes, our starters started to take control of the game. Our second group continued the good work especially on defense, and by about 8 minutes to play we were in pretty good control of the game. We did a nice job of keeping the pressure on, and when Westminster tried a full court press to pull things back, we responded well and were able to break the press for some layups that helped us stretch the lead. We finished the game with a 53 to 35 win. It was a really good team effort by every player. We ended up with eleven players in the score column with everyone having contributed valuable minutes. Kiernan Keller’22 and Zhexuan Li ’23 led our scorers with 10 points each, with Max Peh adding 9. We learned a lot today and played better and better as the game wore on. We look forward to another tough game on Monday as we host the always competitive Suffield Academy team.
