In a NEPSGVA Class A semi-final match, Deerfield defeated the hosts, Hopkins, by a score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-21).
Getting to play in the playoffs is a wonderful opportunity and making it to the semi-finals is a strong accomplishment, but Deerfield showed up today ready to do more than just make the semis. A strong start allowed Deerfield to control the pace of the set and gain points on our serves, a theme that continued throughout the match. Deerfield battled against a strong Hopkins squad and there were times in both the 2nd and 3rd sets where we found ourselves down, but certainly never out. Deerfield was able to do a great job of shifting the momentum when needed and emerging with an impressive victory.
It was truly a team effort; huge shout-outs to everyone on the court today: Daphne Gavros ‘22, Zoe Gavros ‘23, Natalie Meyer ‘23, Evie Mokarow ‘24, Georgia Sackrey ‘23, Cate Shanahan ‘23, Elle Stearns ‘23, Caroline Weller ‘23.
Thanks to Hopkins for hosting.
We get to play one more match for the Class A championship: Sunday at 1pm at Loomis. Go Big Green!
