Hosting only their third home match of the season, Deerfield enjoyed playing in front of a home crowd in defeating Hotchkiss by a score of 3-0.
In the first set, Deerfield started well; good serve receive passing from Zoe Gavros ‘23 and Elle Stearns ‘23 allowed setter Daphne Gavros ‘22 to use multiple players in the offense, particularly Cate Shanahan ‘23. Good serving from Stearns helped to extend Deerfield’s lead to 8-3 and also saw her back on the service line at 20-8 before she served out the set to 25-8.
Unforced errors from Deerfield started to play more of a role in the 2nd set and Hotchkiss did an effective job finding open spots on the court for their hits and tips. Good serving from Caroline Weller ‘23 and Daphne Gavros allowed Deerfield to win the second set, 25-18.
Inconsistent play from Deerfield made the 3rd set more of a back-and-forth affair. Aoife Bruce ‘22 found her serving groove near the end of the match to put Deerfield into the lead and Deerfield closed out the set, 25-21.
Thank you to Hotchkiss for making the long trip on a Wednesday!
Next up, Deerfield will host Exeter on Saturday at 4pm as part of our Fall Family Weekend.
