The Big Green travelled to Windsor, CT to take on Loomis Chaffee School in a Parents’ Weekend match-up. The team had been working on rushing to the ball and sending the ball out wide defensively, so we had high hopes that this would translate in our game against Loomis, and it did. Right from the opening whistle, The Big Green chased down the 50/50 balls and mounted an early attack. Elena Tskhvitaria ’25 made a fabulous play up the left side of the field to beat her defender and curl a shot into the top left corner, only to be called back for offsides by a teammate. That setback didn’t deter out momentum, however; a few minutes later, Tshvitaria sent a beautiful pass across the goal to Rowan Howes ’25 who found the back of the net. The lead didn’t last for long as Loomis scored at the 20:00 minute mark. Deerfield kept shooting (10 shots total in the half) but couldn’t score again until Mariam Kokosadze ’24 scored with less than 2 minutes left in the half to put DA up 2-1. Loomis came back and tied it 2-2 going into half time.
After regrouping at halftime, DA dominated the second half and didn’t allow Loomis to get a shot off. With 7 minutes left in the game, Elena Tskhvitaria scored the game winner unassisted make it 3-2. Two minutes later, Rowan Howes scored again unassisted to make it 4-2; then Mariam Kokosadze chased down a goalie rebound to find the back of the net again to make it 5-2. Isabella Cushman ’24 finished off the scoring to end the game at 6-2. Moving to the ball at speed certainly paid off.
