Thirds Soccer heading down to Cushing for an exciting, high-scoring match on October 9th. From the opening whistle, Cushing was pouncing on the ball and sending it into their offensive end. The pressure proved too much for our defense when Cushing scored just 1:15 into the game. Our defense, led by Mariam Kokosadze ‘24 regrouped, however, and kept the Cushing offense at bay until 2:01 left in the half when they scored on a direct kick. DA headed into halftime down 0-2.
Deerfield started the half fired up and scored within a minute into the half. A scuffle on the left post led to Isabella Cushman ’25 sending a pass to the right post where Adeeva Alli ’25 found the back of the net. Four minutes later, Natalia Sanders ’24 scored on a breakaway. She moved the goalie left and then found the right side of the net to tie the game at 2-2. The excitement didn’t last long, however, because Cushing scored again 40 seconds later. Deerfield dug deep and gave their best effort for the entire 60 minutes, but in the end, Cushing converted more of their shots than we did. Many things were learned from this exciting game.
