On a windy, humid day at Hotchkiss, we scored early and extended a lead to 5-1 at halftime. The game ended 8-1. Tommy Augustine scored in the first five minutes on a run-on-and-finish and then again on a free kick minutes later as he popped a bouncing ball with his head past the keeper. He also scored the third, fifth, and sixth goals as he proved too speedy for Hotckiss’s back line. He totaled five goals (!) on the day. Mukhtar Handulle had two goals. His first come on a PK after earning a foul in the box with his typical hustle and his second was a nicely finished loose ball. Peter Kurto slashed and scrambled all afternoon and scored on a deflected cross from Brick Johnson. Our defense was stellar again today, with excellent dispossession, foot race speed, and transitions to the midfield. Bob Zhang and Tom Spater split time in net and were solid. Overall, our team pressed Hotchkiss all day and quickly transitioned into dangerous positions. Both teams played with heart and good sportsmanship.
