On Saturday, October 9th, the boys junior B soccer team once again traveled south for another road match, this time against the Westminster School. Due to a variety of injuries, the team was down to only 14 players for the 3 pm kickoff against the Martlets. Despite another stellar performance from the team and numerous excellent chances on goal, the match ended in a 1-0 win for Westy, which dropped Deerfield’s record to 0-3-1 on the season. Westy seized the lead quickly, scoring on a beautiful bar-down shot in the 7th minute that just barely eluded keeper Joe Berman ’25. Playing from behind for the rest of the match, Deerfield strung together passes and worked together for shots that only were kept out of the back of the net by great saves from Westy’s keeper. While the team is disappointed with the loss, they continue to get better each game and with numerous games left, there’s still an opportunity for a winning season. The boys junior B team have the next two weeks off, but will be back in action on Parents Weekend, a 2:30 kickoff at the Eaglebrook School.
