Deerfield’s Junior A soccer team lost its first game of the season, a frustrating contest against a big, physical Westminster team. Captain Jack Chorske ’22 played the same stellar defense at keeper that he has all season, though Westy managed very few shots, its goals coming on a high, knuckling free kick and a penalty shot following an unfortunate foul call. Senior Luke Shields at center-back played hard and long, matching the intensity of Westminster’s attack. Teddy Pappas ’24 and Jake Rohan ’24 moved up to midfield from their traditional defensive roles and brought energy to Deerfield’s offense. MacGregor Hynds ’25 also stood out at midfield, running hard to sneaking through balls through the defense. The team looks forward to redoubling its efforts at practice and getting back in the win column against a strong Eaglebrook team in our Fall Family Weekend showcase game on Saturday afternoon.
