Deerfield’s Boys Thirds soccer team remained undefeated, cruising to its fifth win on Wednesday afternoon at home against Suffield Academy. Athlete of the Week Winston Cho ’24 got the scoring started by dribbling skillfully though two lines of defense before making a great shot. One minute later, right after ten DA players subbed in, Alex Rolfe knocked in a second goal, the beginning of what would be a hat trick for the sophomore striker. The team’s third goal, finished by Rolfe, began with a great cross from Caleb McDaniel, in his first appearance as a midfielder. Twenty-two minutes into the second half Cho notched his own second goal to put DA up 4-0, followed three minutes later by a beautiful shot from attacking middie Ari Santos ’25. After Rolfe made it 6-0, the emotional highlight of the game came when sophomore Alex Ayres scored his first goal of the season, a relentless feat after the keeper deflected three previous attempts. Ayes also played twenty strong minutes as center back, a new position for him. Other standout performances include ninth-grader Shogo O’Connor’s productive work in the middle, Jason Bannerman’s defense that improves with every game, and Jack Willett’s head’s up play at outside back, a unfamiliar spot for the offensively skilled player. Deerfield heads to Connecticut on Saturday to test itself against an always tough Hotchkiss team.
