On Saturday, October 2nd, Deerfield had our first home game of the season against Exeter. It was an exciting game that ended up being a full team effort up until the end of the last quarter.
A few minutes into the first half, Deerfield had a lapse in communication and Exeter found the back of the net, scoring the first goal of the game. After regrouping during the two minutes following the first period, Deerfield came out ready to fire back. We went on to score 4 unanswered goals, (two in the second and 2 in the third) from Bailey Miller (’24), Ella Davies (’24), and two from Charlotte Iler (’23). Over the course of the game, Deerfield did a good job of attacking the goal, providing great support for one another and cutting back to ball when it mattered most. In the last quarter of the game, Mary O’Shea (’25) had two excellent defensive plays; she carried the ball strong out of our defensive end and up the sideline to connect to our midfield.
With six minutes remaining in the game Exeter capitalized on a sequence of defensive errors and scored off of a corner to bring the final tally to 4-2. All in all it was a good win for Deerfield. We look forward to our contest up at NMH on October 6th.
