Field Hockey (Girls): Junior Varsity vs. NMH (10/6/21 2:30 PM)

Event Details

Building on Saturday’s momentum, but taking the first half of the game to warm up to the challenge (and, significantly, doing so with a different internal configuration for today’s game) — the girls, in the second half, put four goals in the cage. Well played! Seen from the opposite end of the field, as goalie Juliet Amadeo ‘24 observed during post-game shout-outs, big thanks go to the defense when the goalie never has to touch the ball. Throughout the scoreless first half, we did a really good job putting our passes together, moving the ball out of the center, in essence enacting parts of our pre-game warm-up and any of the numerous passing drills we’d practiced in the last couple days (and, actually, across the last month). As the game moved along (in successive 12-minute quarters), we picked up the pace: faster self-starts and free hits, effective transitions back-to-mid-to-forward, successful switching of fields (left to right), even some great crosses (and near misses) in the circle. But in the second half, between calling on our own deep bench and wearing down our opponent, we finally scored. Forward Jo Louis ‘23 put the first one in, with an assist from forward Casey Kittredge ‘25 and a second assist from center forward Lila Church ‘25 — effectively involving the entire forward line. Nice. Jo Louis also scored the second goal, this time with an assist from center mid Charlotte Steffensen ‘25. Our third goal articulated one of the real strengths we flexed today: back Coco de Vink ‘25 passed to mid Haley Abraham ‘25 who passed to forward Casey Kittridge who put the ball in the cage. Three successful passes up the length of the field: that’s the game! Final goal came from Sophie Braddock ‘24, initially off a pass into the circle from senior middie Kate Stenger, then off the goalie’s pads. On one of the most scenic fields in the league, on one of the season’s most beautiful days — well fought together! And a final sparkle on the day: all five seniors started in today’s win. And it’s on to our next away game on Saturday.
