In its most commanding victory of the season so far, Deerfield defeated Suffield Academy’s junior varsity team without losing a match on Wednesday afternoon at home. The girls had this match circled on the calendar since the middle of January, when they lost to Suffield on the road by the narrowest of margins. Valentina Williamson remains undefeated since becoming Deerfield’s top seed, winning in five games in front of packed stands in a match that featured the fastest-paced squash we’ve seen all season. Kaitlyn Kelly, who overcame some midseason struggles and reclaimed the team’s #2 slot last week, also won in five, and like Valentina, didn’t let losses in the third and fourth games beat her mentally. The rest of the team played dominant squash and didn’t lose a game. Now Deerfield prepares for the final home event of the season, the traditional tri-match against Andover and Choate on Saturday.
