The boys’ JV hockey team took to the ice for the final game of the season on Saturday at Westminster School in Simsbury, Connecticut. It would be the last hockey game in green and white for the three seniors Alex Leong, Aidan Philie, and Alex Strait. All three have been outstanding players and leaders for this team all season long. Alex Leong got the start in net and he was his usual rock-steady self all game Leong (J). The score today would be a 3-3 OT thriller against a good skating Westminster team. The Martlets would score 2 goals early in the game to take a 2-0 lead but the Doors would not be denied as they started to crawl back into the game with Bodie Fish scoring a power play goal before the first period was over. Midway through the second period, Will Lodge would score the equalizer and the game began to pick up in intensity.
Westminster would carry the lead again scoring what looked like the game winner early in the third period. Then with just under three minutes to play Dom Sessa scored the equalizer and the Deerfield boys went wild!
The game would end in a 3-3 tie after an exciting 5-minute overtime period which saw both teams shooting pucks off the pipes and creating great scoring chances.
After starting the season with an 0-5-1 record this team never lost focus and kept getting better as a team with each week. From mid-January on this team was 8-2-2 and played some great team hockey relying on multiple contributors every time they took the ice. One more congratulations to our seniors. Your actions and team first approach made this a season to remember for us all!
