The boys JV Hockey team hosted a young and talented Eaglebrook varsity team on Wednesday. It would be the last home game on Deerfield ice for seniors Alex Leong, Alex Strait, Aidan Philie, Ryan Welch, and Peter Marchese. Welch and Marchese were scratched from the lineup due to injuries. This has been a special group of players and the three that played in the game have been the backbone of the JV team for several years! Congrats on your great leadership and your good play over the years, especially this season!
The team was hoping to jump to a two game over .500 record with a win today. This team beat us earlier in the season 5-1 so we were prepared to play in a tight game.
The finally score at the end was a hard-fought 1-0 win for Eaglebrook. They would score the game’s only goal in the first period. Both teams battled for two and a half periods with no scoring. Alex Leong was outstanding in net as was the EBS goalie.
Eaglebrook had a slight edge during the second period in terms of good scoring opportunities. However, in the third Deerfield was the team with the chances. Aidan Philie had a one-timer that rang off the post, Will Lodge had a breakaway near miss, so did Bodie Fish. The energy was there, and effort from all members was in abundance. The only thing missing was a little luck. Give Eaglebrook credit, they hung in and did what they had to do to keep us from having our way. They too, competed at a high level today.
Both teams left everything on the ice. The sportsmanship was excellent as was the play all throughout the game. With three games left Deerfield hopes to play their best hockey and continue their successes in recent weeks. Next up is Williston on Saturday.
