Boys JV hockey won again on Saturday in another tightly contested match up with visiting Hotchkiss. The Bearcats came into the game with an undefeated record and having a very successful 3 year run against the boys in green. Having just come off one of our best games of the year on Wednesday against Cushing Varsity B the Deerfield team was feeling confident going into this game with Hotchkiss. Alex Leong started in the net for us and once again he was outstanding giving his team a good chance for a win today.
Deerfield would score two goals in the first period getting off to a good start while Hotchkiss tried getting their bearings after the two hour bus ride. The line of Lodge, Sessa, and Bloomer came out flying in the first stanza and put lots of pressure down low in the offensive zone every time they were on the ice early in this game. At the midway point in the first period their hustle paid off as Dom Sessa tapped home a loose puck coming from a shot at the point from Alex strait. Will Lodge delivered the puck up to Alex on the blue line who quickly shot the puck to the net where Dom was in good position to finish the play after a scramble.
Felix Rockefeller would double the home lead 5 minutes later off an odd-man rush and terrific pass from line mate Aidan Philie.
The second period was a back and forth 15-minutes with each team scoring a goal. Hotchkiss would score first cutting the lead to 2-1 when they recovered a loose puck turnover around our goal and slip it past our goalie. Deerfield would answer quickly, in under a minute, when Aidan Philie scored a beautiful one-timer off a pass from Bodie Fish giving us back a two-goal lead.
The third period was a battle and once again we got stellar play from Alex and the defense. Hotchkiss applied their best pressure of the game and would score a power play goal halfway through the period.
Deerfield buckled down with just a one-goal game and played their best hockey of the afternoon creating good scoring chances and limiting Hotchkiss opportunities in our defensive zone. It was a good week for the team coming away with two solid wins against good opponents. Only two penalties taken today! Great work fellas!
The team will get a good skate in on Monday as they prepare to hit the road on Wednesday to play Cardigan.
