The Girls Thirds basketball team traveled to Farmington, Connecticut, for their second away matchup against Miss Porter’s School. After a January loss in Farmington by only two points, the Big Green notched their third win of the season with a 27-19 final score. Playing without a key inside player, Samantha Pehl ’23, Deerfield relied on its intensity from the tip. Despite falling into an early 2-8 hole, Deerfield came fighting back. Mia Calcano ’23 and Destynee St. Agathe-Faure ’22 showed up on the defensive end, grabbing important boards and steals. Arie Lewis-Pugh ’22 and Sydney Dinkins ’22 were critical on the offensive end during the Big Green come back. Dinkins only mustered 2 points on foul shots, but her aggressiveness on offense produced quality looks for her teammates. Lewis-Pugh led all scorers in the game with 16 points in a dominant performance. As Deerfield took the lead, it was all Aurelia Bolton ’22, who finally found her touch, adding 6 second-half points for the Big Green. Finding themselves down with a few minutes remaining, Miss Porter’s applied a full court press that Sunshine Chen ’23, Bolton, and Lewis-Pugh handled like pros, as they glided to an easy finish. The Big Green finishes the season with home games against Stoneleigh on Wednesday Feb 19th and Chote on Friday, Feb 28th. Be sure to check them out on the court!
