On Wednesday, February 5th, the boys 3rds basketball team hosted the Eaglebrook School in the Barn for a rematch of a tight game played on January 11th. In that game, Deerfield led for most of the game, but gave up the lead late and had a game-winning 3-pointer rim out to lose by 2. This game was similarly exciting, but unfortunately Deerfield fell short once again, losing 48-40 to drop to 1-9 on the season. The 1st half was back and forth, with each team gaining a small advantage until the game was tied at 11 with about 6 minutes to go. From that point, Deerfield was held scoreless for the rest of the half, which allowed Eaglebrook to take a 24-11 lead. After half-time, the lead eventually grew to 30-11 before Deerfield went on an extraordinary 23-5 run to cut the lead to 1. The rest of the game was tight, although Deerfield was never able to take the lead and eventually had to resort to sending Eaglebrook to the free throw line, where they converted 11 of 23 attempts to seal the game. Tysean Price ’22 led Deerfield once again with 13 points, including several clutch layups off of steals from the full-court press. The boys 3rds team will be back in action on February 12th with a 4:30 road game against Williston Northampton.
