The JV swim team opened their season with a hard fought meet against Suffield. Deerfield’s team included 8 newcomers to the sport swimming in their first meet ever. Declan Cullinane performed well, winning both the 50 backstroke and to 50 freestyle. Rookie Tony He won the 50 breaststroke in his first ever swim meet. Captain Piper Day led the team’s distance swimmers tackling both the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Captain Grace Mazur kicked off her senior season with a 6 second drop from last season in the 100 IM. Divers Morgan Clough and Mark Chung took top honors in the diving and then swam for the team in the second half of the meet. New coach Marissa Cornelius led the team in cheers. The scoreboard may have recorded a loss, but this team is off to a terrific start. Final score Suffield – 127, Deerfield – 88.
