Deerfield Girls Hockey took on rival Choate this afternoon in front of a loud and supportive cheering section. We played a strong first period, and took a 1-0 lead when Ellia Chiang ‘21 converted a beautiful feed from Jackson Kinsler ‘22. We lost some momentum in the second period, as penalty trouble left us short-handed for much of the period. Luckily, our PK units did a tremendous job, with Kelly Howe ‘22 in particular rising to the occasion in this role. We found our stride again in the third period, and Kinsler scored a goal of her own (assists to Chiang and Brianna Felice ‘21) before Chiang converted again on the power play off of a smart deflection (assists to Keri Clougherty ‘21 and CC Deslauriers ‘23). Choate was able to get a goal back, but Clougherty iced the game with an empty net goal (assist to Christina Halloran ‘20). Emma Tennant ‘21 was strong in goal yet again, and Haley Sundstrom ‘21 earned the hard hat for her smart and consistent play in the defensive zone. Thank you to the Mikesell family for the snacks and drinks! Next up is a rematch with New Hampton at home on Friday night.
