The boys JV hockey team hosted NMH on Wednesday in the first game of a home and home series with our neighbor. Deerfield, still looking for their season’s first victory, fell behind early in the game 2-0. Starting goalie Lawrence von Steuben was doing all he could to keep his team within reach of the visitors. He made several terrific saves as NMH was applying good pressure right from the start.
Bodie Fish would break the ice for the home team with assists going to line mates Aidan Philie and Felix Rockefeller.
In the second period Will Lodge score a beautiful breakaway goal off a nice pass from defenseman Alex Strait. With the score tied at 2-2 the intensity of the game picked up and for the next minutes of the game, right up to the three minute mark in the third period, the action was back and forth between these two evenly matched teams.
NMH would score the eventual game winner during a loose puck scramble in front and go on to score an empty net goal to seal their 4-2 win.
Overall a good outing with our team playing a disciplined brand of hockey. We’ll go back to work and come back against Andover on Saturday!
