The girls 3rds basketball team played their 4th game of the season away against the Stoneleigh-Burnham JV team.
Burnham’s cold gym could have been the factor in The Big Green’s cold start. StoneLeigh-Burnham jumped to a quick 4 point lead, which they slowly extended to ten before the big green charged back on some good team defense. Aurelia Bolton’s strong “and-one“ finish with a second remaining brought Deerfield back to 4 points at the half.
The Big Green kept it close throughout the second half with an aggressive full court press that yielded 15 steals from Mia Calcone, Arie Lewis-Smith, and Sunshine Chen. Nevertheless, despite Samantha Pehl’s best offensive game of the season, the Big Green couldn’t come all the way back. Arie Lewis-Smith’s late-game three-pointer rimmed in and out to give Stoneleigh-Burnham a 22-19 victory. Despite the loss, coaches Romick and Hunt were pleased with the effort, lack of turnovers, and sportsmanship.
