The girls thirds basketball team faced their toughest opponent of the year for the second of two meetings this season. Taller and quicker than DA, Bement won 31-15 on the shared home court. Bement started and ended the game with separate 8-0 runs. Between the first two and last two minutes of the game, the big green kept up with a solid zone defense and great on-ball pressure. Sydney Dinkins demonstrated true hustle, earning 6 steals in one three-minute span in the first half. Sunshine Chen greatly improved her entry passes and hit the team’s first three-pointer of the season. Despite picking up three early fouls, Arie Lewis-Pugh managed to play smart but aggressive for the rest of the game – a move that showed true basketball IQ. Coaches Hunt and Romick were particularly impressed the ways in which the girls adapted their offense to Bement’s defense. Toward the end of the game, Samantha Pehl found Aurelia Bolton three consecutive times to break down the defense and get some easy buckets. The 3rds team looks to rebound against Miss Porters School this weekend in Farmington, Connecticut.
