The girls 3rds basketball team traveled over rolling, snow covered hills to Miss Hall’s School in Pittsfield, MA on Saturday to try and go 2-0 against the Hurricanes. Deerfield was only able to suit 6 players due to injury, but that didn’t affect their hustle and defensive intensity. Deerfield jumped to an 8-2 lead on buckets from Samantha Pehl, Sydney Dinkins, and Arie Lewis-Pugh, a lead which they maintained for the majority of the game. Some great outside shooting from the Hurricanes in the second half allowed them to take lead with 3 minutes left in the game. However, the Big Green roared back with 5 steals in the final two minutes and buckets from Sunshine Chen, Aurelia Bolton, and Lewis-Pugh to earn their first road victory 28-25. Deerfield plays at home against Bement – their toughest opponent of the year – this Wednesday in the Multipurpose Gym.
