On Saturday, January 11th, the boys 3rds basketball team traveled to the Eaglebrook School for a 3 pm tipoff for their first game after the long holiday break. Despite leading until the last minute of the game, Deerfield’s last-second buzzer beater rimmed out and the team dropped to 1-2 on the season with a 36-34 loss. After some solid passing and inside play, Deerfield jumped out to an 8-point lead midway through the first half. Eaglebrook continued to chip away, however, and cut the lead to 3 at the half, 21-18. Both teams had their moments in the 2nd half, with Deerfield able to stretch the lead out to 8 several times, but with Eaglebrook always ready with a run of their own. Eaglebrook finally took the lead with about a minute to go, but a late 3-pointer by Deerfield and a missed free throw gave the visitors one last chance. Deerfield got a good look at the basket, but it was not to be. Tysean Price ’22 led the way with 9 points, while classmate George Fauver ’22 added 8. The boy’s 3rds team will look to get back to .500 with a home game in the multi-purpose gym against Avon-Old Farms on January 15th at 3:30 pm.
