The Big Green faced the Pomfret Griffins in their first contest on the road this Saturday. On a warm, windy day, DA dominated the opening minutes, getting early shots on goal and connecting from our defense, through the midfield, up to our attack. DA had success finding Katy Gilbert ’19 on the right flank, with fullback Haley Sundstrom ’21 and our center midfielders sending balls to her feet and overhead. Towards the end of the first half, Pomfret began to raise the pace of the game, catching Deerfield on their heels. The Griffins took a long-range shot from outside of the 18 yard box that slipped through our back line and found the bottom left hand corner of the net giving the Griffins a 1-0 lead.
DA kept knocking in the second half, sending some dangerous crosses to the back post, with Morgan Moriarty ’22 and Emma Kahle ‘22 almost managing to get on the end of a few of them. Towards the middle of the second half, Pomfret earned a free kick to the side of the box. Angie Czeremcha ‘21 initially made a diving save to block the service, but the ball was ultimately deflected into the back of the net making the final score 2-0 Pomfret. The Big Green will remain on the road for a contest against Williston Northampton on Wednesday.
