Thirds girls soccer played a rollicking match on Friday against Deerfield’s hometown rivals, Frontier Regional. Despite having to dash to the field mere minutes after finishing a tiring school week, the team managed to muster up some energy to defeat Frontier 3-0. The first half was on the quiet side, with goalkeeper Stella Kerwin Derrick seeing no action thanks to the impenetrable wall of Deerfield defenders. Ninth-grader Valentina Williamson took aim at Frontier’s goal with reliable frequency, and two of her shots went in during the first half to give Deerfield a solid lead. After some enthusiastic fans lined the sidelines at half-time, both teams really kicked it into high gear. Frontier made valiant efforts to come back in the second half, but to no avail, and Williamson scored a third goal before the final whistle. Props to midfielder Amelia Tyler, whose superb dribbling skills helped keep the ball in Deerfield’s possession for the bulk of the game.
