In what ended up being an instant classic, Deerfield had their toughest test of the season from a strong, physical, and talented Taft squad. After playing some great possession soccer early on in the match, Deerfield was put on our heels by a fast-paced and relentless Taft attack. Quinton Stevens was the man of the match and made at least a half dozen top-notch saves. Although Taft had the better of the chances in the first half, Deerfield controlled a good deal of the possession and continued to battle to a 0-0 halftime score. The second half began with 15 minutes of stellar play from Deerfield and some excellent scoring chances before Taft pushed back with an impressive and balanced attack. Once again, Quinton was there to turn them away, making several key stops in the second half. With the score still 0-0 and time running down, Charlie Sinnott delivered a beautiful strike from about 25 yards out which deflected off a Taft defender and in to the side netting to put Deerfield up 1-0 with five minutes to go. The boys battled all the way to the finish to secure the victory in what was a tough, physical match. It was a gritty effort and truly a total team win.
