Deerfield field hockey traveled to Hotchkiss on a beautiful summer-like day to play the Bearcats on their home turf. Thanks to a strong effort from our midfielders who supported the play and transferred the ball, Deerfield kept Hotchkiss’ scoring opportunities to a minimum. Deerfield moved the ball well between teammates, and scored first when Sydney Cresta ’20 found the corner of the net after a scramble in front of the Hotchkiss goalkeeper at about the fifteenth minute of play. Both sides continued to share possession, but Hotchkiss was able to capitalize twice on some offensive drives down the field, and took the lead before the half was over. The scoreboard read 2 -1 (Hotchkiss) at the half. While the second half finished with no change in the score, both teams made several scoring attempts. Deerfield’s defensive unit, lead by some aggressive and consistent plays by Talbot Von Stade ’21 defended their net during several corner plays. While we wished that the outcome might have been different, the team played hard together and improved on things from earlier in the week. Next, we travel to Pomfret to play Milton on Wednesday.
