Tennis, Girls: Junior Varsity defeats NMH

Event Details

Deerfield traveled to Northfield Mount Hermon on Wednesday for its annual cross-valley rivalry grudge match! As usual, the Hoggers were a pleasure to oppose and the team were happy to play against skilled and kind opponents.

Doubles teams were up first. Back together again were Tess Mannix and Whitney Vogt at #1, securing an 8-6 victory to lead off the day. Deirdre Mullowney and Liz Tarazi got their first bagel of the season in a beautiful rout at #2. Cameron Heard and Ally Kell battled back from an early deficit to tie things up 7-7 and force a tiebreak game, which they won in another nailbiter, 8-6. Deerfield thus took all three doubles points for the day before getting going with singles.

Annabel Gerber at #3 kicked off the victories and put Deerfield within a point of the overall win for the day with an 8-1 W over her opponent. At #2 and #6, Vogt and Lily Zeng were victorious, too, with 8-4 and 8-1 wins, respectively, sealing Deerfield’s 6-3 victory for the day. Mannix dropped her match at #1 4-8 but not for lack of effort or skill at all, while Anne Brown at #4 rolled with the punches to nearly win the day but ultimately lost 6-8. Kylie Kittredge at #5 was the last to finish and also dropped her match 6-8, after some excellent and highly athletic points!

The squad is excited to take on Loomis on Saturday and heads into the home stretch of the season with a very respectable 5-1 record.
