Deerfield competed against rival Choate on Saturday, 5/4 in Wallingford, CT and came out on top 5-2 to bring the team’s overall record to 7-2.
Deerfield swept all three doubles matches with a come-from-behind win at #1 doubles. Auersperg/Pathapati were down 3-6 against Coletti/Mody before they rallied to win 5 games in a row to win 8-6. Excellent volleys and solid serving kept the team alive and able to clinch the match. At #2, the team of Sarachek/Adrian Yao out-steadied their opponents to win 8-3. And Ji/Bronckers at #3 continued their solid play this season by winning a close match 8-6 against Kish/Coletti.
Taking that momentum into singles, #1 Alfi Auersperg cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Alex Coletti. Achille Sarachek’s heavy forehands secured his win at #3 by a score of 6-4, 6-1. Deepak Pathapati then fell at #2 to Parth Mody 6-4, 6-3. But clinching the win for Deerfield was Eli JI at #4 who came back from losing the first set to win the match in a third set superbreaker, 4-6, 6-2, 10-4.
Finishing almost simultaneously was Cosmo Hunt at #6 who nearly staged a comeback but ultimately fell 6-3, 7-6(5) to Ryan Feldman, and #5 Adrian Yao who, despite winning 6-2, 6-3, played the longest match of the day because of long rallies each and every point!
The boys are right back in action on Monday, 5/6 at home against Williston at 4:30pm.
